Acupressure Massage: What is it?

from:

Find Acupressure Massage Schools in the United States and Canada. Today, students who are intrigued by natural healing will find that many holistic schools offer acupressure massage as a course of instruction. Unlike some massage therapy modalities, acupressure massage is part of a system of ancient Chinese medicine designed as noninvasive bodywork used to help relieve pain and promote natural healing.

Acupressure massage is based on "meridians," or channels that carry energy throughout the body. Prospective students will quickly discover that acupressure massage correlates with acupuncture points; but opposed to using needles, students learn how to use gentle but firm pressure of the hands to effectively produce the same, natural results.

In an acupressure school, students who are learning how to administer acupressure massage will find that common benefits of acupressure massage include stress and tension relief, mind-body relaxation, improved circulation, musculoskeletal pain relief, and several other positive health affects. In addition to gaining insight into how acupressure massage contributes to overall health and wellbeing, acupressure massage students will also learn fundamentals of acupressure, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology, and a variety of associated studies in Chinese medicine.

Some massage therapy schools that offer acupressure massage may teach students how to combine reflexology, aromatherapy and essential oils into the application of this unique bodywork. Depending on the individual course of study, acupressure massage lessons may also integrate studies in Tui Na (Chinese Medical Massage), Zen Shiatsu, sports acupressure; and more advanced classes geared toward specific human and animal pathologies, such as cancer and arthritis. In addition, a number of natural healing schools that extend acupressure massage training may also offer classes in Qigong, Asian bodywork and other massage modalities as well.

As with most massage therapies, acupressure massage is a superb addition to any professional practitioner's line of client services. Both students and professionals stand to earn a fair amount of training and enhanced education should they choose to enroll in this unique course of study.

If you are interested in finding your dream job, let education within fast-growing industries like massage therapy, cosmetology, acupuncture, oriental medicine, Reiki, and others get you started! Explore career school programs near you.
